This 1987 production incorporates the "Rule, Brittania" segment in the finale in Act 2, which was used in 1887. Then, 'Pinafore's' Savoy revival coincided with Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, and Sullivan prepared the 'Brittania' addition for that celebration. This version was retained in performances into the early 20th century, as it is heard in a 1908 recording. 'Pinafore' is the third of Gilbert & Sullivan's 'Savoy' operas, preceded by 'Trial By Jury' and 'The Sorcerer'. It opened on May 25th, 1878 at London's Opera Comique Theatre, and ran for 571 performances. Hugely successful, it is popular to this day. --- Link To Act 2 Overture 00:01-04:13 ---------Cast--------- Sir Joseph Porter -----------------Nickolas Grace Captain Corcoran -----------------Gordon Sandison Ralph Rackstraw ------------------Christopher Gillett Dick Deadeye ----------------------Thomas Lawlor Bill Bobstay -------------------------Paul Parfitt Bob Becket --------------------------Paul Thomson Josephine ----------------------------Elizabeth Ritchie Little Buttercup ---------------------Linda Ormiston Hebe -----------------------------------Janine Roebuck New Sadler's Wells Opera Chorus and Orchestra Conductor: Simon Phipps Information is from oakapplepress dot com, and from album notes.
